Review of Back to the Future Part III (1990) by Matthew D — 22 Jan 2013
"I know you did send me back to the future but I'm back. I'm back from the future!" Movie Matt here with Back To The Future Episode 3: The Old West. To be honest, I didn't like this one because I felt they rehashed the plot line of the first film from the POV of Doc with the bulk of the film being set in the time period they traveled to (in this case 1885). To me, the film was more a homage to the "Spaghetti" Clint Eastwood westerns of the early 60s & going with the "I'm gonna stay here with my love" plotline really just didn't cut it. This was the least received, both critically & commercially (while it made enough to cover its' budget, it was still low) & using the plot of the first & the "I choose to stay" angle just wasn't worth it for me.
Side fact: the sets for 1885 were built in Jamestown & Sonora, CA. I visited there on a road trip & obviously didn't see the sets as they were destroyed by lighting in 1996. I DID see the train tracks that Marty walks along & for the railroad scenes (but didn't make the connection).
