The first Back to The Future was great, but was slightly diluted by clearly being set up for a sequel. (In my opinion, it didn't need a sequel). This, the sequel, doesn't come close to the quality of the original. Plot is confusing at times, and lacks the originality of the first. In fact, it often just feels like a retread of the first.

Has its moments though. The way the first movie is woven into the scenes and plot of the second is clever.

Performances aren't as compelling though. Michael J Fox is Ok, but Christopher Lloyd is irritating. He was great in the first, finding just the right level of intensity and over-the-topness. Here he overdoes it, coming across as a parody of his performance in the first movie.

Good support from Lea Thompson, again. Elizabeth Shue puts in a brief appearance as Jennifer, Marty's girlfiend, replacing Claudia Wells who had the role in the first movie.

Having devalued the first movie by making this, the producers went one step further and made Back to the Future III. This was even more pointless.
