Review of Back to the Future Part II (1989) by Nolan H — 13 Oct 2011
Undeniably, the first film is better. But, honestly...not by much. Sure, at times, it basically replicates scenes from the first film with only minor differences, but this movie is absolutely incredible.
It is so entertaining to watch. The characters are just as amazing as in the first film. The plot is over-stuffed, but in a good way. There is so much to understand, but you're still coherent with what every character's motive.
I have to say, the best part about this film, that's almost mind blowing, is how close it's tied together with the first film, and if you look and listen close enough, it makes some hints about the third film.
The scenes where Doc Brown and Marty are at the same locations as their past selves are so clever. The scene where Doc is on the street and sees himself setting up everything for Marty to go back to the future, and he has a conversation with his past self is just charming.
It's such an entertaining scene, and Christopher Lloyd plays it so well. I can honestly say, I probably would have liked this movie, overall, better than the first film if it gave us the same dose of Crispin Glover as it did last time 'round.
