Review of Back to the Future Part II (1989) by Dan B — 11 Feb 2012
Perhaps more than any other, this picture marks the end of the movie brat dream of the 70s, and the triumph of marketing of the 80s. OK, that's maybe a little hyperbolic, but the first act is all product placement, the second, a wistful cameo by the last reel of It's a Wonderful Life, and the third a mixture of re-tread of part 1 and set up for part 3.
That's not to say it's not a lot of fun and the darkness of the middle section gives weight to the froth on either side, so while it may not match its predecessor, it certainly doesn't shame it.
