Review of Back to the Future (1985) by Josh C — 19 Sep 2013
Bar none my favorite movie of all time. It takes such a complicated and off the wall concept and turns it into one great experience. I remember first seeing this and when I did, it broke the wall between me and science fiction.
Yeah, there's a lot of that, but this is the best way to tell a story like this. Nothing out of the ordinary or for nerds, practically everything is perfect. The characters are just great. Michael J.
Fox's Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd's Emmitt "Doc" Brown are so great how they both are products of their own time but gladly explore other time periods. That is what always stick out about this film is the generation gap between the 50's and the 80's.
You have a lot of revolutions in not only technology but societal values all together in the American culture between that 30-year time frame. A lot of the dialogue focuses on the battle between being reserved or being confident, taking advantage of every opportunity or just not getting in the way of life, being conservative or letting loose.
And it's amazing how inspiring it is but also how funny as all heck it is. Marty constantly has to try to get his parents together while pushing away his mother's advances at the same time. And how it all works out is the better alternative for everyone discluding Biff Tannen.
Just looking at this film, you see that a lot of work was put into it. It doesn't just go a simple route and give the crowd of the time what they may want to see, it gives everyone what they want to see.
Definitely a must see and a notepad on how to create a timeless classic.
