Review of Back to the Future (1985) by Mitchell B — 19 Aug 2014
If you can set aside the creepy incest angle of having your main character being hit on by their mum then settle in for an absolute classic. Giving the flux capacitor another spin recently and transporting myself back to the 80s was a blast, but what I was most impressed with was the sheer skill in the construction of the tale - the foreshadowing of later events throughout the first third is just brilliant and sadly lacking in 98% of today's family films and blockbusters. Back to the Future is wonderfully crafted and chockablock with ingenious detail. The performances and effects (and clothes and music) may have dated but Great Scott the script, energy and adventurous direction is absolutely timeless!
I give it 1.21 gigawatts.
