Review of Back to the Future (1985) by Vittorio P — 19 Mar 2016
Back to the Future was the film which inspired me to stop sleeping in pajamas and start sleeping in my clothes. I remember seeing the scene where Marty is sleeping in his clothes and Doc calls him and wakes him up thinking, "That's me from now on.
That is the way I will dress in bed." You're always ready for night adventures if you sleep in your clothes. You sacrifice a small amount of comfort for a large amount of adventure-readiness.
Of course, as I got older and my legs grew hairier, I had to stop sleeping in my jeans as I would wake up with really itchy legs. I think itchy legs are the cutoff point of the balance between being ready for anything and comfort.
I even tried sleeping in my shoes for a while. I have some ideas which are good, and some ideas which are bad. After years of fine-tuning, I've learned to keep my belt inside the belt loops when I take my pants off.
This way, I can fold up my pants next to the bed with the belt secured inside the belt loops, all ready to go. This seems like an obvious thing to do now, but it's tips like this that would have made my life a lot easier as a young man.
