Review of Bachelorette (2012) by Andy G — 11 Apr 2013
I feel like this movie did everything Bridesmaids was trying to do and failed miserably at. Yet all the reviews I've read say it's self-consciously raunchy or some attempt to say "Hey, women can be gross too.
" Which is what Bridesmaids did and everyone loved that and it was a terrible movie. Bachelorette was honest and dark and really, really funny and it made me genuinely confused about what people actually think is comedy anymore if everyone hated this movie.
The dialog is sharp, the cast is stacked with talented people, and at least has an understanding that it's ok to be subtle about things and that no one needs to take a shit in a sink (or in the middle of the street) to get a laugh.
