Review of Bachelorette (2012) by Studlyshoe . — 17 Feb 2014
Whilst it's an entertaining film, it's also shallow and cruel. The characters act like they're still in high school. There wasn't really any message or point to the film. The film is about a bitchy group of girlfriends who are jealous when their "fat friend" Becky (Rebel Wilson) is the first to get married, nevertheless they disguise their bitterness and disappointment and agree to be Becky's bridemaids and to come to her bachelorette party which gets out of hand. The group of so-called friends; control freak Regan (Kirsten Dunst), hard party girl Katie (Isla Fischer) and sarcastic Gena (Lizzy Caplan), manage to upset Becky and they form their own bachelorette party, but accidentally ruin Becky's dress and have only a few hours to get it fixed.
Regan, Katie and Gena are all unlikeable, really fake and bitchy and the kind of girls you wouldn't want to have as your "friends". They're cruel and mean towards Becky and don't really care about her. The girls' antics are amusing though and Gena's sarcasmism is funny. The girls also get the groom's best men; Regan flirts with ladies man Trevor (James Marsden), Gena encounters her ex boyfriend Clyde (Adam Scott) and Katie hangs out with nice guy and pot dealer Joe (Kyle Bornheimer). The annoying thing about the film is that there's no message; Regan, Katie and Gena are still the mean girls at the end of the movie.
However I did like that the film wasn't as soppy, ditzy and cliche as most wedding movies such as Bridesmaid, which is truly awful. Also it was kind of good to see that the girls weren't the typical "best friends" and it shows that some people still don't grow up after highschool. The movie was entertaining to watch and it was fun to watch even though Katie and Gena are drug addicts who constantly get high. The film could have been a little long (it was an hour and 19 minutes); there could have been a little more plot development. Guys probably should give this a miss, but girls it's worth a watch. It's nothing special, but it's got a good cast and it's a bit of fun, even though it's really superficial.
Grade: C.
