Review of Bachelor Mother (1939) by Reginald R — 27 Aug 2006
I remember seeing a 90s remake of Letter From...that was really crap, so I had low expectations. This was good stuff to me.
Vivien Leigh was uncharacteristically uninteresting in Waterloo Bridge. But as expected from this sort of melodrama, even though the film wasn't the greatest on story, dialogue or characters, it still delivered very satisfyingly on the drama side when things started going wrong for the protagonists.
The Mad Miss Manton. A fairly ok but completely forgettable comedy.
Kirk Douglas was Vincent Van Gogh in Lust for Life. I liked the colors and the paintings and the happy anxiety.
Bachelor Mother is one allaround great and able romantic comedy. Ginger Rogers has an enchanting smile. I love her.
