This new school horror presents itself as something completely different than what it eventually becomes. The twist / shift in the middle of the film is so jarring, it may put some people off completely.

It almost feels a bit goofy, though I'm sure that's not intentional. Still, the originality and ambition is something to be admired, and a savagely graphic butchery scene is a nice addition. First time writer/director Jonas Barnes shows promise and a decent understanding of what it takes to make a polished, mainstream film behind the camera - even if his script is a bit rough and disjointed.

He manages some good performances, particularly from Bruce Thomas, the young boy's father. And as a side note, Bill Mosley as a police officer is a fantastic thing to see. The third act is a nice payoff, and it becomes a decent and rather bloody horror if you can handle the transition at the halfway point.
