Review of Babylon A.D. (2008) by Chrystopher E — 12 Aug 2011
It's difficult to explain why I enjoyed this movie so much. Perhaps it's the scenery. Starting with the filthy slums of a ravaged country, to the crisp clean, colorful futuristic views of New York.
The world in which the characters live in, is very interesting, becoming a character more and more throughout the film. Though at times you may cringe at the terrible attempts at one liners, and poor dialogue, it is bearable.
The cinematography is very fluid. Capturing a lot of action (which was very short lived at times) at the right angle. The soundtrack and score, is one other element I thoroughly enjoyed. The musical Alliance 'Achozen' scored the film.
Music producer, Hanz Zimmer stated, - "Musically, our objective was to merge the sounds and energies of hip hop with classical music, seamlessly melting them into an unusual soundscape.", and I thought that was achieved effortlessly.
Most don't realize and know that over 70 minutes of this film was cut. 20th Century FOX was very hard on production. Changing multiple elements throughout filming leaving this film scarred and incomplete.
I say give it a chance. Don't expect a blockbuster. Expect something unique.
