Review of Babylon (2022) by Altmex — 02 Mar 2023
It's a three-hour auto-suggestion exercise by the movie people for the movie people. The gist of it is that they are not a bunch of snobs removed from reality but the same "ordinary people", whose pathetic existence they help to brighten so much. Oops, looks like we've just hit a contradiction, but disregard that, go buy that ticket and don't block the queue.
Take "Artist", "The Great Gatsby", "La La Land", "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", throw it into the mixer, and then pour down the audience's throats for three straight hours.
Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad movie, but I'm so sick of spending three hours in the movie theater just to watch another self-congratulatory present of movie industry to the movie industry.
