Review of Baby Driver (2017) by Chris B — 09 Sep 2017
This movie has a slick image and a great soundtrack, but the plot doesn't make enough sense to make it worth it. The main character leads two lives: as one of the greatest getaway car drivers ever caught in a world of crimelords and insane murderous thieves!, and as a young man taking joy in caring for his aging foster dad and falling for the local diner waitress (aw).
Surprisingly, the "private life" side is really well done, but the "crimeworld" side was just a bunch of pro forma, boring posturing, stupid dialogue, and shoddy character logic. As that became the focus of the movie, I kept wondering how much longer the thing would go on.
