Review of Baby Boy (2001) by Charli A — 10 Jan 2012
Tyrese Gibson might be excellent as Singleton's lazy lead, but the film's trump cards are Ving Rhames and A.J. Johnson as his guardians, infusing every scene with humour, intensity and believable affection.
This third Part of the Director's impressive early trilogy of Los Angeles 'Black Films' that boasts a slimy performance from Snoop Dogg as a threatening ex-con and a dedicated, manic, rapturous turn from Taraji P. Henson as Gibson's long suffering 'Baby Mamma' is every bit as fascinating and unusually ironic as his first instalments. Worth checking out.
