Review of Baby Boom (1987) by Sean R — 11 Jun 2010
My favorite Diane Keaton movie. She is in fine comic form. This is her most endearing and most heartfelt performance.
Diane is a high powered Wall Street exec married to her job. Money and acquisition are her only goals in life. Film throws some very funny satiric barbs at 80's yuppie lifestyles, in these early scenes.
One day she is left in charge of raising a baby girl, and soon her priorities change, and she begins to reassess her life.
Juggling billion dollar deals and motherhood challenges at the same time, provide the juice for lots of the humor.
The smart script by Nancy Meyers and director Charles Shyer is that it doesn't forsake one extreme for the other ( that rural country family home life can can jive with Diane's brains and business savvy ).
I have seen this movie numerous times since its' fall 1987 release, and it never fails to charm and entertain me. Good times.
