Review of Babette's Feast (1987) by Deana W — 21 Sep 2007
This movie has a lot of heart, a lot of humor, and a lot of delicious looking, if in some cases bizarre to the American palate, food. It's basically several decades in the life of a small Danish village full of austere members of a small Protestant sect whose lives get interrupted occasionally by people from the outside world.
Babette starts as one of these people but then stays... almost two decades later she really succeeds in bringing the outside world in. The dinner party is the best. Thank goodness the General was there!
