Review of Babette's Feast (1987) by Abigail D — 11 Feb 2011

A really good movie.

Funny story: There is a hymn they sing in here that has a really pretty tune and when I heard it I liked it a lot, but of course couldn't remember it later having heard it only once...fast forward a few years--my family started going to a new church and one of the hymn tunes we would sing fairly regularly became one of my favorites...fast forward again--my mom was watching Babette's Feast for the first time and I saw/heard the part where they were singing the hymn whose tune I remembered I liked but couldn't actually remember how it went, and lo and behold it was the one we sang at church that had since become one of my favorites, and I was all "I know that tune! That's the one that it was?!" (The tune is called "Neumark" if you're curious.).
