Review of Babette's Feast (1987) by Jens T — 17 Dec 2011
Gabriel Axel's Babettes Feast is the screen adaption of Karen Blixen's with the same name. This is the story about the two sisters Martine and Philippa who lives at a remote small village near the danish coast.
They have been brought up by a very strict Lutheran priest. They always been faithful to their christian community so much that they have chosen it instead of chosing their heart and marrying their greatest loves.
But one day the former famous french chef Barbette Hersant who have lost every thing and is sent by her dead husband who once where in love with Phillipa. Barbette is send to the two sisters as their servants.
14 years later she wins a french lottery and she spends it all on a farewell party where all the old remaining Lutheran community is gathered to reminisce about old days. Barbette's Feast is a good movie, with a extremely solid cast and a solid plot.
The story about a happy but unfortified live. Thumbs up.
