Review of Babette's Feast (1987) by Paul J — 28 Mar 2014
An intimate and heartfelt celebration of communion. This tender Danish film has a brilliant and ironic message about self-suppression and indulgence. Its subtle story is actually quite bold and speaks volumes about tradition and spiritual nourishment.
It's a fable about how to live better. Interestingly, there are also many religious parallels between God and Babette. She's an artist - almost God-like. In a funny way, you might say this is Mary Poppins for adults.
