Review of Babel (2006) by Matt C — 06 Mar 2010
A very well-made film that portrays four stories which are all connected in some way. The whole cast does an outstanding job, with the lesser-known actors actually outdoing Blanchett and Pitt. The film looks beautiful as well and the stories, which touch on such things as fate and family and lonliness, are believable.
It kind of reminded me of Magnolia, only better since there wasn't any crazy preachy ballyhoo. It's driving force is how thought-provoking it is. I spent probably an hour after this film thinking how there are billions of other lives on this planet moving and dying and loving, same as these characters in the film.
Worlds apart, different circumstances playing out, yet they're all connected in same way. It was very cool. Great stuff, definitely would rank it near the top for 07's top films.
