Review of Babel (2006) by Lee B — 21 Dec 2010
Alejandro González Iñárritu is the master of these types of films. 21 Grams was one of the most emotional and jaw-dropping films I have ever seen and Babel comes very close to 21 Grams greatness.
Part of Babel's brilliance is the subtleness and pace of it all. Iñárritu takes his characters and formulates a story so powerful, a story so emotional and a story so gripping it grips you in the opening moments and attaches and grips you to the very last second.
It's a true piece of cinema brilliance, and beauty that I would be happy to, without thought rank it among the contenders for the best film of the year. I mean, seriously, every single performance is as brilliant as the last one.
From the most prominent characters all the way to the minor ones. Every role is so integral, so awe-inspired, so meaningful that it puts this further into my mind how much I really love this film. I'm moved.
