Review of Babel (2006) by David F — 30 Mar 2010
An interesting premise - the accidental shooting of an American woman by two Moroccan boys sets off a chain of events on three different continents involving several disparate and unrelated people. Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu certainly knows how to set the tone and mood of a scene through quick editing jumps and jerky handheld shots that provide a certain level of verisimilitude, but the film as a whole is very uneven - the three competing narratives fail to hold interest in equal parts.
