Review of Babel (2006) by Paulita C — 15 Oct 2011
It's not bad. Sure, the storytelling is contrived throughout, and the overriding message seems to be 'Gosh, isn't the world a scary place' but it's well acted and there are some genuinely uncomfortable scenarios to be placed in.
While the Japanese connection is tenuous at best, it's also one of the most interesting aspects of the story. Yet again Mexico is portrayed as a terrifying place, and Morocco doesn't fare much better, but the characters are at least mostly interesting.
