Review of Babel (2006) by Zanele J — 30 Dec 2012
Review by Zanele Jiane.
This movie can be easily called "Life" or any other name and the name will fit.
There is nothing under the sun which does not happens in this movie; suicide, abandonment, reconciliation, forgiveness, remorse, loneliness, giving, love, drugs, alcohol, crime, separation, etc.
This movie is beautiful in every aspect, the score always underscore the scene and the country the scene was shot in.
This is "it is, what it is" filmmaking, a very bold undertaking and the results are gorgeous, this movie easily appeals to the motions as all movies should do, this one succeeds because it focuses adequately on the characters and the rest of the movie is taken care of. Innaritu transports viewers effortlessly into the world of the characters, nothing is coerced or manipulated here, pure storytelling.
Penned by Guillermo Arriaga, who did a terrific job, together with Gonzalez Innaritu created a trilogy of death, beginning with Amorez Perez, 21 grams and Babel.
A wonderful contribution to the entire story was by the resourceful cinematographer Rodriego Prieto who also done an amazing job in Spike Lee's 25th hour.
This movie rocks!
