Review of Babe: Pig in the City (1998) by Cal ( — 03 Jan 2008
Mediocre follow-up to successful kids' film 'Babe' is every bit as bad as its predecessor, and even worse. The kids might not find this one too good, as it is much darker and more frightening.
But then again, adults won't find this one too good either. We once again follow Babe "the Gallant Pig" (this time voiced by Daily) who moves to the city with Mrs. Hoggett (Szubanski) as they need to raise funds for the farm after Farmer Hoggett (Cromwell) is injured and can no longer work.
We follow Babe as he has his own adventure when his fellow animals friends are rounded up by the police and Babe wants to save them. Painfully clichéd, and keeps trying to make it kid-friendly despite its dark undertone.
Special effects are the only redeeming feature. Heck, even the pig isn't that lovable anymore. It's so sad how badly kid movies are sinking these days.
