Review of Away We Go (2009) by Lee B — 20 Jul 2010
The awkward beginning (not just the first scene) almost lost me, but then came the situations. And that is the core of what is great about this movie, dropping this slightly quirky couple into situations that are even more bizarre. These can become very funny, but even more important is that it never loses its core of emotion. This couple that wasn?t sure what they were getting into overcoming all of these things that could put them down. This could easily have been a drama, but it wouldn?t be as engaging.
The jokes are subtle, and often hilarious. The misses can be easily washed over as part of the quirkiness. But I really liked the Krasinski guy, who I have only seen Jarhead and Kinsey but never noticed him (I?ve only seen part of 1 episode of the US Office on a plane). However, Maya Rudolph is amazing. She needs more juicy roles.
