Review of Away We Go (2009) by Paul S — 03 Aug 2010
"We have a cardboard window".
Firstly I am a huge Sam Mendes fan and always look forward to seeing his films. This one was no different. This seems like the kind of film that probably looked great on paper, but the end product is just a film that fell flat. Its an off beat comedy that has many off beat moments and some really wonderfu, but it doesn't make up for the lack of pace in this film. I'm really still trying to figure out what this film is missing, but I think the big one is 'energy'. The plot of this film I don't think was strong enough, even though I know they were searching the country for the best place to have a family, but maybe life could have been written a lot more difficult for them a long the way. It would have given it a greater depth and a more effective conclusion. Its not a bad film, and it is worth watching though.
