Review of Away We Go (2009) by Paul C — 26 Nov 2010
I really cannot find anything bad to say about this film. It was great from start to finish. The way it was filmed was excellent. The choice of music really added emotion to the film. The cast was great.
So many good cast members. The leads were John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph. Krasinski really had great looks on his face for a lot of the scenes. Rudolph did great in her role and really showed she can act some drama.
You also get to see some classic actors and actresses like Jeff Daniels and Catherine O'Hara. Then some out of the ordinary people who you didn't know could act like Jim Caffigan. I know his stand up was good, but his acting is pretty good too.
The film is basically about a couple who get pregnant and it is a surprise. So they take a trip to see friends and family to find out where they are suppose to be in life with this baby. They come to realize that no family is perfect.
The best thing about this film is the content. They took heart piercing drama and mixed it with laugh out loud comedy. Now that is hard to do. I caught myself feeling bad at some scenes and right after laughing.
It is a good way to work out some emotions. There are many scenes that really make you think about life in general and really feel sorry for the people in the movie. But again, right after there are scenes that are so random you cannot help but laugh when they come up.
I guess you can say there is no medium to the film. It is either sad or funny. So my props to Sam Mendes and the writers for making this work. Again, proof that independent films can really be great.
