Review of Away We Go (2009) by Michael L — 12 Apr 2010
I wanted to like the movie, but I just couldn't. As others have, I found the two main characters smug and unlikable. I can't decide if this was due to the performances of Krasinski and Rudolph, or due to a condescending hipster attitude inherent in the script. Also, I usually enjoy when the leads in a movie are not as perfectly beautiful as most Hollywood actors and you can see their physical flaws and relate to them ("Once" comes to mind). However, Krasinski's ridiculous beard and disaffected hipster wardrobe just got on my nerves here.
Also cloying was the NPResque soundtrack of folk and indie rock jumping in at all moments to remind you how tasteful the movie is.
