Review of Away We Go (2009) by Ray P — 21 Jul 2010
I look forward to everything Sam Mendes does and his last film, "Revolutionary Road", was one of the best-acted dramas of the past decade.
"Away We Go", unfortunately is a complete mess. I can only attribute this to whatever personal concerns may have been on Mendes' mind as he separated from wife Kate Winselt shortly after this film came out.
Krasinski and Rudolph simply cannot carry a film as leads and the all-star cast of quirky characters that they come by in this movie are not nearly enough to save things. An unmarried couple, expecting a child, travel across North America to intereact with various friends and family members in an effort to find some connection and a place to settle down and raise their child.
Unfortunately, there is not a single likeable character in this movie and the overly-sentimental ending comes far too late to save a film that was tedious to sit through.
