Review of Away We Go (2009) by Rebecca B — 12 Dec 2010
This is a film that drives mostly on charm. The plot - young couple with baby on the way go out to seek a new home for themselves - is quite thin, and some scenes (e.g. the visit to the New Age couple) seem to included more for comic relief than to develop the plot. But I didn't mind at all. The charm thing works.
What makes this work is the direction (Sam Mendes), some great acting, and a very funny and original script, written by Dave Eggers & co. A feel good film that is sincerely funny at times.
