Review of Away We Go (2009) by Jared M — 26 Apr 2011
John Krasinski absolutely owns this movie. That needed to be said first and foremost. His range expands before our very eyes and for the first time I didn't see Jim Halpert on screen when he was in anything, The Office or not. The chemistry with Maya Rudolph (SNL) is terrific and Mendes' direction is heartfelt and touching as the story of a couple desperately seeking somewhere to call home and people to be role models for their soon to be family is seen through all types of places, scenarios, and problems.
The script is funny, laugh out loud many times, but the best part is that this couple on screen feels real. This movie and these eccentrically different people supporting the main characters have been done before, but Krasinski and Rudolph are so convincing that it's easy to look past the generic parts and see something that feels so fresh and new.
