Review of Away from Her (2007) by Eric F — 29 Mar 2008
Wonderful.
I was worried that the appeal may be lost on a younger audience, but at 20 I was able to relate to a lot of it.
This was absolutely wrenching to watch. Julie Christie's performance was unbelievable and heartbreaking. Gordon Pinsent was very good as well, playing a very difficult role but managed to carry the film.
This is definitely the kind of movie that'll stick with you for a long time to come. It was one of the films where you watch the credits and then stare at the DVD menu for awhile after it's over, reflecting at what you've just seen.
Incredibly impressive directorial debut from Sarah Polley in one of the most moving films i've seen in quite some time.
