Review of Away from Her (2007) by Kimberly B — 26 Sep 2008
A beautiful movie, in all senses of the word, but heartbreaking and crushingly sad.
Still, it's not the unrelenting merciless tragedy and pain of "The House of Sand and Fog" (probably the most depressing movie I've ever seen), because part of what makes this so sad is that the pain stems in part from the things that most make life beautiful and rich.
This is so sad and so hopeful at the same time.
I'm deeply impressed with Sarah Polley's work here. She should have gotten an Oscar nomination for directing, not just screenwriting. She should have won.
