Review of Away from Her (2007) by Aaron D — 26 Dec 2008
It is indeed a pleasure to witness the writing talent of Sarah Polley and the acting chops of Julie Christie and the ALWAYS superb Olympia Dukakis. I do believe however, that Gordon Pinset (in his role as Grant, the loving husband) is very much underrated. I've made it a point to find more of his work. This is, without a doubt a film which will touch the hearts of those whose own lives have been impacted by Alzheimer's Disease (Dukakis' own mother suffered with this), or the heartbreak of losing a loved one to any progressive condition.
Ultimately, it reminded me that love is a living thing which doesn't at all stay the same, but is in a constant state of evolution; and at the risk of sounding trite, shouldn't be taken for granted.
