Review of Away from Her (2007) by Bryan I — 12 Jan 2009
Christie may have earned the Oscar spotlight; however, itâ??s Polleyâ??s directing and, especially, her Oscar nominated adaptation of Munroâ??s short story that steal the show. How sad and how unimaginably painful is the struggle of a couple dealing with Alzheimerâ??s.
A highlight of the Canadian film was how often moments of silence spoke more than words themselves. The husbandâ??s reflection on the Meadowlake couch and the wifeâ??s wandering thoughts on the cross country trail leave you with so much to imagine.
You begin to feel a part of the characterâ??s lives. The ending may disappoint you as it leaves many questions unanswered â?? but, isnâ??t that the unfortunate nature of Alzheimerâ??s.
