Review of Away from Her (2007) by Private U — 10 Mar 2009
This film is a real real sweet film... Julie Christie and Gordon Pinsent are happily married for 45 years... When Julie faces acute memory loss, she's put into this carehome by her husband, where she falls I love with another patient there.
.. The transition of long committed lovers into strangers is beautifully portrayed... The helpless husband does all he could to regain her back, but when he sees her health declining, decides to let her go.
.. Very touching film... Julie was unquestionably nominated for Best actress at the Academies, and would have surely won if it was not for the powerful performance of Marion Cotillard in LA VIE EN ROSE.
.. The Screenplay as much deserved the nomination it got at the Oscars as well... The film is a little slow, but u really become the part of narrative very soon... Its such a lovely feeling to see 2 people in love for more than 50 years.
