Review of Away from Her (2007) by Laimis Z — 09 Apr 2009
Some of the dialogue in this film is frustratingly bad and some is pitch perfect, but it doesn't detract from the overall story. Maybe it's the romantic in me, but I really got lost in both of these characters and their struggles.
Pinsent deserved an Academy Award nomination just as much as Julie Christie did, but thems the politics of Hollywood. Pacing is slow and awkward in parts (no doubt from Egoyan's influence who serves as exec prod), but every moment with the two leads is really watchable.
Great first feature.
