Review of Away from Her (2007) by Duncan C — 03 Sep 2010
Sarah Polley (remember "Go"?) at the age of 27 writes and directs an accomplished piece of film making demonstrating maturity beyond her years. It follows a married couple dealing with the slow deterioration of Alzheimer's.
It's not syrupy, over-worked cliches to pull at your heart strings (e.g. "The Notebook"), but touching, gentle and textured. My one criticsm is that it's a litte emotionally distant but the strength of the direction, script and performances make this a great film.
