Review of Away from Her (2007) by Dave L — 11 Nov 2010
The setting is the winter snow...perhaps as a metaphor for the proverbial "winter" of life. Fiona has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and her husband, Grant, is wrestling with how this is changing their marriage.
References to their past reveal that this may have not been such a fairy tale marriage. There are some slow moving parts but the film is well-made and contains a great performance from Julie Christie.
The audience gets invested in the characters and watching what Nancy Reagan called "the long goodbye". This is a very sad movie.
