Review of Awakenings (1990) by Aaron C — 20 Jan 2008
A decent solid movie with 2 great performances by De Niro and Williams. About a doctor who gets a job at a hospital in the Bronx working with catatonic people. Then discovers a drug that brings them back only for a short while.
Williams character believes in the human spirit and does not not let anybody bring him down. The part where Penelope Ann Miller character dances with De Niro in the cafeteria make we happy but sad at the same time.
He has the shakes but when she starts to slow dance he becomes calm. Very touching movie.
