Review of Awake (2007) by Julie V — 09 May 2009
H.Christensen actually redeems himself in this film... albeit he is "under"/ lifeless through most of it. lol. The beginning starts out quite well (scary details of heart-transplant surgery-- lying doctors and others you thought you could trust), but loses it once his body starts to hover between time dimensions.
(ugh) Would have liked to hear more screaming if he actually felt all the pain, descriptions/study of the anesthesia and/or what sort of heart defect he actually had? In the special features, there is a wildly surreal image of the grim reaper running towards him pre-surgery, that would've been a great addition.
.. Aw, well. Many of the details were groggy which in my opinion, lost a lot of the impact. Jessica Alba's lips are focussed on, which allows this movie to be watchable, if not sexy. Myself, would've liked to see more of Lena Olin and her puzzle-piecing.
