Review of Awake (2005) by Ria H — 25 Jan 2011
Beautifully directed, just when it looks like a conventional weepy melodrama, suddenly a subplot is revealed. Like a good 'whodunnit' apparently redundant cameos are linked and the viewer is left having to revise his inner emotions.
Who wouldn't have been conned by the ex-nurse with a predilection for sex in the bath? Who wouldn't have stood for his 'friend' over the domineering mother's protective preference? And who doesn't feel the raw love, truly deeply felt, of a mother who literally gives her heart for her child?
Awesome scripting. Most critcs appear not to have stayed to the end.....
