Review of Await Further Instructions (2018) by I K — 12 Dec 2018
The writer has tried a mishmash of allegories, that for the US viewer might not be so obvious. The first is obvious to everyone. You have what happens with repressed childhood abuse. That doesn't ring true though. Impossible it took 50 years to finally come out . Been there. It was also done hamfisted.
Then we have the Brexit allegory. His over use of "patronised" and then "bumpkin." Thickos not believing or understanding the "facts" and then protesting. The Asian girl being smarter than the rest of the white trash. Yes, white average folk are racist and stupid. Ironic and perverse the writer chooses to do that way. You put down other races so I'll put down you. Childish tit for tat.
Then you had the religious aspect thrown in at the end. A try at a clever twist that never worked at all.
I see what he did. Something if I had the funds I would had done at college, just throw a lot of frustrated beliefs I had in to some little household drama plus sci-fi film.
