Review of AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) by Georgina W — 16 Feb 2014
I'm a fan of both the individual films so surely a combination of them would be a classic, right? Wrong!!! It's a decent film but lacks the cutting edge that the originals gave us. This feels rushed, unimaginative, and lacking any real action content.
In truth, I believe that such legendary horror characters should not be made to share the same screen as each deserves a movie to give it the full attention it deserves. Neither one is inferior to the other, yet this gives the impression on the contrary.
It has a decent intro, we get to know the main characters I.e. Who's not going to die until the latter stages, and it sets the scene relatively well. What happens next is just a big free for all whereby the corpses pile up in an instant.
It almost tries too hard to increase the body count just to prove the double trouble that this battle centres around. It doesn't really give us anything we haven't seen before what with the aliens bursting out of chests and the predators iconic sensors locking onto its targets.
It all became a little predictable and uninspiring, suggesting the movie was made on the back of previous successes as opposed to an extension of the Sci-Fi drama. Having said all that, I do still like these non complex movies which are easy to follow and do amuse for their short duration.
Not sure that Lance Henrikson should have been cast in a role totally unrelated to his previous character of Bishop as this just adds a slight tad of confusion, but nevertheless the legendary topic of this is enough to bring about the audiences, no matter of the overall quality.
