Review of AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) by Shaun S — 12 Feb 2011
The merging of two classic sci-fi franchises lacks the originality of either of their own background stories.
The premises of ancient cultures being moulded from aliens on Earth is an interesting concept and I liked how this built, however predictable this was. The special effects were also strong, at times removing how far movies have come since the beginning of Predators in the 80's with Big Arnie!
However, none of the characters were developed enough to care about the outcome, which wasn't exactly difficult to work out with an equally predictable ending and 'twist'.
If you like the originals, don't expect the excitement of those, but enjoy the small touches throughout that throw back to the previous incarnations.
