No... your eyes are not deceiving you... I have rated AVP 4/5 stars. I watched this movie for the first time on vacation, being a fan of the Alien movies (at least the first two and especially the second) and "Predator" (specifically the first one). I'm not sure why it took me so long to watch it, but anyhoo...
What can I say? Sure the story wasn't that great. The characters were pretty cardboard. But... the geekdom side of me that loved seeing the Xenomorphs go at it with the Predators won the day. So, with that said, I can't really disagree with those that gave this film a negative review, and while I may love it, I would never recommend it as a great movie.
Not only did the movie appeal to my geekdom, but it did also strike a chord with my fanboy side seeing the Xenomorphs, Facehuggers, and Predators depicted with todays standards of technology and costume designing. And the attention to detail and keeping both aliens true to their originals, especially the Xenomorph Queen who looked pretty much EXACTLY as she did in "Aliens".
So, yeah, for me it's like: "Story? What story? I'm watchin' this for the battle scenes". Which was actually how I felt with "RoboCop 3", which I am about to review on here as well....
Plus.... I gotta say.... some may call it cheesy and ridiculous..... but.... I actually.... kinda... thought who's-her-what's-it's teaming up with the Predator... was actually pretty cool :).
With all that said, I give you full permission to make fun of me :-D.
