Review of AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) by Wes S — 15 Mar 2012
Took me a while to gather up the courage to watch this movie. After all the negative reviews posted here, I originally decided to wait for the DVD to come out. Except, I am such a fan of the idea of Aliens vs Predator that I just didn't think I could wait.
Therefore, I decided to brave a trip to the theatre today to check it out on my own. No one with me, no huge crowd in the theatre ... time to waste in order to avoid the traffic back home.
Boy, was I ready for a major let down. Only that didn't happen. I watched the entire movie encapsulated, trying to come up with a reason WHY the negative critics were complaining SO much about this movie.
Aliens and Predator(s) fought, but they did not fight enough. That was true enough, I could watch the entire movie just having nothing but Aliens fight the Predators if possible. I would be just as happy. This would satisfy the die-hard fans ... all 100,000 of us. Let's say ticket prices are $12.00 per person (anything more and I think you're living in the wrong city)... let's do some math... so FOX would satisfy all 100,000 die-hard fans of Alien vs Predator and turn off the rest of the world.... the total they make back after making all die-hard Alien vs Predator fans equals ... WOW, $1,200,000!!!
HOLY COW!! That is a whole lot of money for a HUGE world-wide movie production folks!!! I feel dizzy just looking at that number.... let me sit down before I faint out of excitment.....
Yeah, you get the point? The freaking movie has got to be different than what the die-hard fans want in order to make everyone happy... in order for Fox to make some profit for their effort. That way they can make a part 2 and improve the movie to be even better! Yes, if the next AVP is just slightly better than this movie, I will be more than satisfied!
I'm straying from my review of this movie.
This movie was awesome. NO obviously annoying CGI... sound was good.... light was decent and not dark like the Alien series. Predators were out-numbered by the Aliens, but the story was perfect for it. It was too short, I agree, this movie would have been super-awesome had it last another hour.... heeeeee.
I LOVE being able to see the Predator again and being able to cringe at the Aliens (I did cringe at the Predators too). It was a dream come true to see both on screen fighting instead of imagining them inside my head *GRIN*.
Aliens acid is too powerful and I would have expected the Predators to be better prepared defensively against something they have hunted for so long. Overall, I believe the Predator more powerful than Aliens. This is contrary to many reviews, but out in the open I think the Aliens have no chance against all the weapons the Predator carry. Alien teeth plunging through Predator helmet was a bit unbelievable, but I guess Predator would have been too powerful, overall, if they didn't have ANY weakness.
In a way, I guess both beasts are equal to each other if pitted with what they have. I was in awe of this movie and recommend this movie to anyone who isn't a die-hard fan, but wish to watch a kick-arse action flick! It's not the best movie around, but I definitely HIGHLY recommend this movie in the theatre.... only place you get the big screen with big sound. Worth the price of admission and to the dismay of AVP die-hard fans ... this movie is going to make WAY more than $1,200,000. ;-).
Can't wait for the next AVP. This beats Chronicles of Riddick 100 times over.... so bring on the next AVP, because I'm ready and not listening to the AVP haters.
