Review of AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) by Ben T — 27 Oct 2014
Alien vs Predator is a film that should work, it really should, the mixing of the Xenomorphs, arguably one of the scariest aliens in all of sci-fi and the predator one of the most badass aliens in all of sci-fi cinema.
Unfortunately Alien vs Predator is absolutely awful. One of the biggest problems is the rating. All the previous Alien and Predator movies have an 18+ rating or an R rating. They are all very violent movies, but when these they are in one movie together it gets a very weak 15+ or PG-13.
All of the violence occurs off screen and the action is very flat and boring. The charcters are awful, remember the original characters in the original alien and predator movies, yeah in this we get boring explorers.
The acting for the most part is bad except for Lance Hendriksen and the main chick, the acting ranges from awful to decent. The action also is a disappointment, due to the PG-13 rating the action is very dissapointing.
Seeing a Xenomorph and a Predator fight isn't scary, it isn't really very entertaining. The title is Alien vs Predator but we only get one scene of the Xenomorph and Predator fighting, and it's very mediocre.
The effects didn't look to good and it was over in about a minute. The predators were awful, they were just fatties with exaggerated muscles. In fact one of the Predators teams up with the last remaining human.
This just shits all over the predators, they are villains, not heroes. Overall I hated this movie and I will not be watching it for a long time, in fact I'm dreading seeing the sequel Alien vs Predator Requiem.
C-.
